Basic OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) course:
Let’s encourage students’ oral production from the basic level.
Do you know the ACTFL-OPI?
The ACTFL-OPI is a foreign language oral proficiency interview test developed by the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), an academy of foreign language education. “OPI” is an abbreviation for “Oral Proficiency Interview”, which refers to an oral proficiency interview (From “The Japanese OPI Study Group“).
Do you think that basic-level learners are not capable to have conversation due to a lack of their knowledge on grammar and/or vocabulary? This is not the case. Even at a basic level, learners can talk and establish a dialogue. In order to facilitate their oral production, it is impotant that teachers carefully choose the topics of learners’ interest , control the flow of conversation, and adjust the way to ask questions; such as Yes/No questions or 5W1H (What, When, Where, Who, Which and How) questions.
Let’s learn how to facilitate learners’ oral production and put it into practice in your classes with Ms OGANE Atsuko, a qualified tester of the OPI.
